Women are underrepresented in science, making up 26% of the STEM workforce in the UK. Growth in this field starts at school, so we recently took part in the ARC Mindset: Inspiring girls into STEM event in Manchester. Students aged 14-16 connected with apprenticeship providers, universities and employers to discuss career opportunities and entry pathways. Our COO, Gemma Little, had a great day discussing platelets with the students, including what a day in the life of a researcher looks like, sharing funky microscopy images and answering some fantastic questions about blood clotting.

Gemma also took our resident ‘Platelet pal’ along for the day, though it did mean a lot of reassurance that platelets aren’t that big, or have googly eyes – we think!
